You’ve probably heard recently that you should update your Kodi Krypton from 17.1 or lower to 17.3 due to some security issues. In the current version of 17.3, a security patch has been implemented to prevent any issues with your media software.

Surprisingly, you can update from Kodi 17.1 to 17.3 without losing any data. If you like, you can also just delete Kodi 17.1 completely off your device and start anew.

Amazon Firestick Guide

Option 1 – Keep your data (add-ons/build) and upgrade from Kodi Krypton 17.1 to 17.3

So basically, if you want to keep your data such as your Kodi add-ons or build. You can just download the Kodi APK file with the Downloader app in the Amazon App store and install the file.

Here are the directions on how to proceed:

1. Enabling Unknown Sources

At your Amazon home screen

  • Scroll to Settings
  • Select Device
  • Select Developer Options 
  • Select Installation from Unknown Sources to “ON”

  • Select Apps
  • Select Categories
  • Select Utility
  • Select Downloader
  • Select Install/Download

  • Open Downloader App
  • Select where you enter the URL link http://
  • Enter http://bit.ly/17kodi3
  • Select Ok
  • The download of the file will begin.
  • Once finish, open the downloaded file and select Install.

Once it finishes installing, you can go ahead and run Kodi again and you should be updated to 17.3!

Option 2 – Delete Kodi Krypton 17.1 and download/Install 17.3

This is pretty much the same directions as above except this time, we want to uninstall Kodi and download-install Kodi 17.3 as a fresh new installation.

Delete Kodi 17.1 or older

At your Amazon home screen:

  • Select Settings
  • Setting Applications
  • Select Manage Apps
  • Select Kodi
  • Select Uninstall

Now you should have Kodi 17.1 or older uninstalled. Follow the directions from option 1 to install a fresh installation of Kodi 17.3
